I want to know if there is anything i need to know to make it look cool? pruning can look a bit challenging and i want to know anything to make it easier or any hints on what to know to cut or not? they gave me a small cup and fertelizer and put i water and and it has 5 seeds in it. does each seed become its own tree? or do they all come together as one?

OH MY ! Where are you going to be in 15 years ? First, the seeds you got. Yes each seed if it germinates will become its own plant. Then you have to transplant them to a different pot. If the seeds have gone through their 90-150 day long stratification period then they should germinate in your " small cup " within a month if you keep that cup at around 70 degrees F. Then after they germinate, leave them in that cup for a couple more months until they acquire a good root system. Now you can transplant them into a bonsai pot. So now in another three to five years you can begin to train and prune them, and so on. Your girlfriend gave you a wonderful yet misunderstood present. Bonsai are wonderful plants to have if you have the patients for them. To create a bonsai from scratch you are better off buying a baby japanese maple from some garden center and begin your pruning from there.

Your best bet would be to go to google.com and type in: Care for bonsai tree seed I am sure you will find many sites regarding your question. :-)

Japanese maple is a bit difficult to grow. Most japanese maple seeds that you can buy are not fresh. Are you seeds already sprouted when you got it? If not, just putting it in the soil will not make it grow. Also, japanese maples grow soooooooooooooooo slowly!! You aren't going to be ready to prune it for a long while. About your other question, each seed sprouts into one tree so 5 seeds will sprout into 5 different trees. Overall I don't think you will have much success. Sorry = ( Japanese maples are so beautiful.
